I WANT THAT MONEY!!

Who has seen The Producers?

No… not the 2005 movie based on the Broadway show, but the 1968 film version starring Zero Mostel and Gene Wilder.

The plotline revolves around Max Bialkystock (Mostel), once the self-proclaimed King of Broadway, who is now reduced to man-whoring himself to elderly ladies in order to raise funds for his next show and “wearing a cardboard belt.”

Accountant Leo Bloom (Wilder) enters his office during one these romantic encounters. Bloom does Bialkystock’s accounting books and discovers that Mr. Bialkystock raised $2,000 more for his last play. Bloom writes is off as a business expense.

Then, Bloom proposes an accounting theory and assumes that Mr. Bialkystock is a dishonest man…

Bialkystock convinces Bloom to help him raise the money for a play that is guaranteed to flop and retire in style in beautiful Rio de Janeiro. They discover such a play, Springtime for Hitler: A Gay Romp with Adolf and Eva at Berchtesgaden.

Combined with the backing of several old ladies, the writing Franz Liebkind, director Roger De Bris, and hippie Lorenzo St. DuBois (AKA: LSD) in the lead role of Adolf Hitler, the play is set for its debut on Broadway. Bialkystock and Bloom have sold 25,000 percent of the show (well… you can only sell 100% of anything) and are certain that the show will fail because who in their right mind would watch a play about a positive portrayal of Hitler.

Except one problem… the play is an overnight hit.

(Cuddling with a blue blanket)

Mrs. Stevens… 25%

Mrs. Smith… 25%

And their scheme goes up in like a bomb in a Broadway theater.

The point I am making is this: We are seeing this with the current slate of Republican candidates running in this November’s election: Sharron Angle, Ken Buck, Christine O’Donnell, Rand Paul, Joe Miller, Louie Gohmert, Rich Iott, Michele Bachmann, Stephen Broden... and the list goes on.

Their candidacies are being funded by huge secret business interests that have no interest in moving our country forward. The only interest they have is theirs and they do not care who suffers.

They definitely are following the script of raising money. After all look at Christine O’Donnell’s campaign and how she is using her money to pay for her housing. And who remembers the shopping spree that Sarah Palin went on back in 2008? How much are you willing to bet there will be a larger story AFTER the election about fraud in many of these campaigns?

One huge difference between this and Springtime for Hitler: the audience was laughing and saw that it was a joke.

Instead of treating these candidates as jokes and laughing them out of politics, people are taking them seriously… and many could have a role in our government on January 3, 2011.

I wish that it was a scheme, but it is not. This is the reality we are facing.
