PATIENCE

Twelve years ago, I was at the Tarrant County Democratic Party watch party being a witness to history. When the 10PM hour struck, it was announced that Obama had won.

In 2012, I was at my home in Denton, TX watching the returns come in. Ohio was announced for Obama 12 minutes after 10PM thus securing his re-election.

I remember where I was in 2016, and the slow agony among those in a Denver hotel room of watching Hillary Clinton losing to Donald Trump. I was so distraught that I could not drive, and I remember calling my sister to apologize to my niece for not doing enough to prevent the nightmare from happening.

There was some anxiety going into 2018, but there was relief when it was announced that the Democrats had flipped the House thus providing a necessary check on Trump’s recklessness.

In each of those instances, we knew the results.

WHO CONTROLS THE COLORADO GENERAL ASSEMBLY (2020 EDITION)

Before I reveal my final electoral college prediction, I cannot stress enough how important downballot races are. What happens in your state capitol matters; probably more than what happens in our nation’s capital.

Because 2020 was a census year, 2021 will be redistricting and several states still redraw their districts based on what party controls the legislature. There has been an effort to flip those chambers or introduce ballot initiatives to allow for independent commissions to redraw districts that do not so strongly favor one party.

If you haven’t voted yet, do so on Tuesday

JOHN LEWIS: IN HIS OWN WORDS

Thursday concluded the memorial services for Congressman John Lewis who died on 17 July 2020 due to pancreatic cancer.

First, the obligatory fuck cancer remark

And second, I had something written but it did not do him justice. We throw around the word legend, but he was one and we were honored to be in his presence for the 80 years he was on this Earth.

This is a small sample of the numerous speeches that Lewis gave, but if someone was to ask me who was John Lewis, I would show them some of these videos to give a glimpse of who he was.

PASSING THE CENTURY MARK

Sunday was a significant milestone in the 2020 election calendar with it being 100 days until Election Day

Today there are exactly 14 weeks until the country renders its verdict on Trump, his administration, and his Republican Party.

But some voters may be making their voices heard sooner given the state of current events

DECISION TIME

Tomorrow is the New Hampshire primary as voters in The Granite State are headed to the polls to cast their votes on who should be the Democratic nominee for president.

But for those not in New Hampshire, you may have the opportunity to vote at the same time.

QUISLINGS

For those unfamiliar with the word, this has two definitions but comes to a point given Wednesday’s events in the US Senate.
