OFFENSIVE FOUL

"You can sleep with [black people]. You can bring them in, you can do whatever you want. The little I ask you is not to promote it on that ... and not to bring them to my games."

That was the line that Los Angeles Clippers' owner said after his girlfriend V. Stiviano posted a photograph of her with former Lakers player Ervin "Magic" Johnson on Instagram. The recording of the statements made by Sterling was obtained by the website TMZ.

A DIFFERENT ANIMAL

The gentleman pictured above is Corey Gardner (R, CO-4). He is my congressman and will likely be running to unseat Senator Mark Udall (D, CO). At their nominating convention in Boulder, Colorado Republicans gave Gardner 73% of their support which was well past the 30% needed to qualify for the primary ballot. Colorado's primaries are the last Tuesday in June.

WE HAVE A PROBLEM

Last Sunday was the 15th anniversary of the Columbine High School shooting.

It has been 21 months since the shooting at an Aurora, CO movie theater.

In December 2013, there was another shooting at a Colorado school. This time it was at Arapahoe High School in Centennial, CO.

I cite these locations because these locations are located not too far from the Watts Media Corporation global headquarters in Denver, CO. These are within driving distance from where I live. Though I was not living in Colorado at the time when these crimes were perpetuated, I heard about them in the news and these places are part of my community.

It is long past the time to acknowledge that this country has a problem.

LETTERMAN/COLBERT (22 April 2014)

One of the huge stories in April was David Letterman announcing his retirement from The Late Show With David Letterman. His last show is scheduled for some time in 2015.

David Letterman has been a staple on late night television for over 30 years. Letterman started with his own program called Late Night With David Letterman that first aired on NBC in February 1982. When Johnny Carson announced his retirement from The Tonight Show in the early 1990s, Carson picked Letterman to succeed him. The brass at NBC went against Carson's wishes and selected Jay Leno. Letterman departed NBC for his own 11:35 PM (ET) in 1993 over on CBS where he has been there since.

Upon the announcement of his retirement, there was a lot of speculation of who would replace him. Jezebel produced a list of ten women who could replace Letterman among them former SNL alums Maya Rudolph, Amy Pohler, and Tina Fey, Chelsea Handler, Ellen Degeneres, and Wanda Sykes. Other names that circulated were Jon Stewart and Conan O'Brien, and even bumping Craig Ferguson from The Late, Late Show into The Late Show slot.

All of them would have been very good candidates for The Late Show.

Instead CBS agreed to let the Colbert Nation invade their staple program. The new host of The Late Show starting in 2015 will be Stephen Colbert.

This interview features the passing of the comedy torch from one generation to the next.

STEWART/WARREN (22 April 2014)

Sporting a bright red blazer on her appearance on The Daily Show With Jon Stewart, Senator Warren continued her round of the talk shows both promoting her book A Fighting Chance.

Much like her appearance on The Rachel Maddow Show earlier in the evening, Senator Warren discussed the importance of economic fairness and how this country drifted away from the things that once worked in providing all Americans with the chance to succeed.

MADDOW/WARREN (22 April 2014)

Tuesday night featured several good interviews. In the 7 PM (MT) hour, Senator Elizabeth Warren (D, MA) was interviewed on The Rachel Maddow Show by host Rachel Maddow.

Senator Warren is the author of the book The Two-Income Trap: Why Middle-Class Parents Are Going Broke and recently released another book titled A Fighting Chance.

Warren's specialty and focus is on economic policies, specifically how the practices of the last thirty years have impacted the American middle class and their ability to maintain economic stablity for their families.

Elizabeth Warren's political career began with this viral video while she was running for the US Senate in 2012. There were these lines in particular:

I hear all this, oh this is class warfare, no! There is nobody in this country who got rich on his own. Nobody.

You built a factory out there -- good for you. But I want to be clear. You moved your goods to market on the roads the rest of us paid for. You hired workers the rest of us paid to educate. You were safe in your factory because of police forces and fire forces that the rest of us paid for. You didn't have to worry that marauding bands would come and seize everything at your factory...

Now look. You built a factory and it turned into something terrific or a great idea -- God Bless! Keep a Big Hunk of it. But part of the underlying social contract is you take a hunk of that and pay forward for the next kid who comes along.

Warren addressed the 2012 DNC along those same lines and ran on a platform of economic populism and fairness in her senate election in Massachusetts. Warren defeated the incumbent senator, Scott Brown, in 2012.

Warren's appearance on The Rachel Maddow Show was about her new book and to promote her views on relieving college students and their families of the student loan debt that saddles them. Senator Warren is rumored to possibly run for the Democratic Party's presidential nomination in 2016. Whether she has higher office in her sights, she represents a voice within the Democratic Party of that fairness matters.

THE WILD WILD WEST

Over the weekend Nevada Rancher Cliven Bundy made the outrageous claim of that his property is in the sovereign state of Nevada and does not recognize the authority of the United States.

Bundy along with armed thugs bused in from other locations across the country staged a standoff because of Bundy's refusal to pay fines associated with illegally allowing his livestock to graze public lands.

The federal government headed by the weak President Obama decided to negotiate a settlement with these thugs by allowing these animals to roam free across the pristine Nevada landscape.

It is an atrocity that this administration allows this freeloader to dodge the government and avoid paying taxes. The freeloading moocher muckity muck.
