Senator John McCain (R-AZ) has been an interesting figure in Congress.
One notable example has been his position on “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.”
John McCain in 2006…
John McCain in 2010
Even more notable examples of Senator McCain’s reversing his positions:
As a fellow veteran, I have this to say to Senator McCain:
Your daughter and (I hope) your wife understand. I may not agree with your family on some of their political positions, but one thing we can agree on is common humanity when it comes to LGBT Rights. Ending DADT would enable that our country lives up to the idea that “all men are created equal.”
Anyone who is willing to dedicate a portion their life to serving in the military should be able to regardless of their sexual orientation.

When historians look at the fight to end DADT, as shown in The Daily Show clip, your military career will be eclipsed by your threats to filibuster against progress.
The issue I with you sir, you followed in your family’s tradition of military service to defend this nation’s citizens and yet despite someone with your credentials is unwilling to be the voice of reason and sanity. After all, sir, you did say in 2006 that if the brass said it was OK to end DADT, you would be in favor. In 2010, the Chairmen of the Joint Chiefs (a four-star Admiral) and the Secretary of Defense have voiced they are in favor of repeal. If you ask me, those are some pretty hefty military leaders (besides the President of the United States in his role as Commander-in-Chief) voicing their opinions to end DADT.
Remember your campaign slogan from 2008?
Live up to that: put your country that you dedicated a majority of your life serving above party.
Instead, you have dug yourself into a position of opposition that will result in history not looking very kind on you.
In short…
Sir, you are on the wrong side of history.
However, there is still time to do the right thing.

I can't believe this ass hat was so close to becoming our President. I know if he had then this debate over repeal wouldn't even be on the table. No offense but I wish he would do us all a favor and "die".
