I’M (STILL) WITH HER

Don’t act so surprised

I endorsed Hillary Clinton prior to caucusing for her in March, and I am returning my ballot for her at a drop off location.

KEEP IT LOW KEY

When he was appointed to fill the seat in January 2009, Michael Bennett was a relative nobody in the political word. He was the Denver School Superintendent when then-Governor Bill Ritter picked him to fill the seat vacated due to Obama picking Ken Salazar to be the Secretary of the Interior.

CLEARING THE SMOKE (COLORADO AMENDMENT 72)

Political ads on television are commonplace at this time every two years in Colorado.

One ad I have noticed talks with ranchers about this constitutional amendment that would create these new taxes, and they are not fans of it.

I also noticed a “No on 72” sign on the door of a gas station’s Kwik-e-Mart one day.

So I pulled out my phone to see what Amendment 72 is exactly.

IN GOOD CONSCIENCE (COLORADO AMENDMENT 106)

I recently had a discussion with my mother about Amendment 106, the Access to Medical Aid in Dying proposal called the Colorado End-of-Life Options Act. It is modeled after Oregon’s law that was passed in the 1997.

TAKE A STEP BACK AND LOOK AT THE BIG PICTURE (COLORADO AMENDMENT 69)

TWO-FOR-ONE (COLORADO AMENDMENTS 107 & 108)

Here is a special endorsement; a two-for-one deal involving both Amendments 107 AND 108.

Both amendments deal with how the political parties deal with choosing their nominees for offices; 107 deals with the presidential primary while 108 would open the primaries for all non-presidential elections.

ON RAISING THE BAR (COLORADO AMENDMENT 71)

Here is why I support changing the signature threshold requirements for ballot initiatives.

It is because of personhood.

DOWN BALLOTS MATTER (2016 EDITION)

I received my ballot in the mail last week.

While there is the top of the ticket, there are also several downballots that deserve just as much attention.

I am equally concerned about who occupies 200 East Colfax Ave ZIP Code 80206 as much as who resides at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave and who controls Capitol Hill.

Many require a deeper analysis and I will announce my findings about those issues in several upcoming posts.

For now, these are some of elections that are on the ballot specifically in Denver that I am endorsing.

CLOSING ARGUMENTS

Tonight is not just the final general election presidential debate but the final presidential debate involving one of the two parties until we start talking about 2020 which will likely be sometime in the second half of 2019.

Both Clinton and Trump have to make their closing arguments at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas to the few remaining undecided voters there are out there on why they should be the next president.

FRONTLINE: THE CHOICE 2016

Since 1988, PBS’s flagship news documentary series Frontline has aired The Choice; a quadrennial tradition that looks in depth at the two major party candidates that are running for president.

Much like the previous iterations, there are several interviews with political observers, respected reporters, and close confidants of the candidate that offer insight into how one of these two people will lead the country.

Given the amount of history surrounding Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, Frontline did the best they could in packaging these magnanimous personalities into a two-hour episode. It would have been understanding if given the type of candidates if they did a three-hour or even two standalone episodes looking into the political and personal lives of each of the candidates that the country will have as their next president come 20 January 2017.

There are three weeks until Election Day. I strongly urge those that have not watched this to do so.

Live from NEW YORK… it’s the second SNL presidential debate spoof.

And someone was upset about it…

CLINTON-TRUMP II RECAP

Sunday night was debate night as Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump faced off for the second presidential election debate, this time in St. Louis.

Here is how I scored it

PREPARATION

“Well, Donald, I know you live in your own reality”
- Hillary Clinton, first debate

KAINE-PENCE RECAP

Tuesday night was the only time the vice-presidential candidates would debate in the 2016 election.

I think there will be a couple of things remembered about this debate but it is quickly starting to fade from the news cycle in part due to the most recent Trump controversy and the lead up to the second presidential debate.

Here is how I scored this debate

KEEPING UP

It is hard to keep up with Trump’s patterns of behavior. Not releasing his tax returns. Insulting veterans and their families. Calling Mexican’s rapists. Inciting violence among his supporters. 3AM tweetstorms. The scam that is his foundation and Trump University. The ban on Muslims. The list goes on.

UNDER PRESSURE

Tonight is the first and only vice-presidential debate of the 2016 election campaign.

As I have alluded in my recap of the first presidential debate, the pressure is now on Trump’s vice-presidential nominee to turn the campaign around.

Four years earlier President Obama had a terrible performance in his first debate at Denver University that was later called the Debacle in Denver. It was up to Vice-President Joe Biden to not only save the campaign but possibly save the Obama presidency.

As I observed after the debate, Biden did his job to get a hold for the ticket. He was a little demonstrative in his performance, but that is what Uncle Joe is known for. He set it up for Obama to do what he needed to do in the last two debates.

What does tonight’s debate have in store?

CLINTON-TRUMP I RECAP

The first 2016 general election debate is in the books and without a doubt Hillary Clinton emerged victorious over Donald Trump.

Through the first 20 minutes of the debate it appeared that Trump would keep his cool and put up the façade of that he is electable.

And from that moment on the wheels came off.

The moment that will probably be remembered will be the obvious lack of preparation that Trump did leading up to the debate and the line that Clinton delivered exposing Trump.
