It was posted this evening via facebook by Stace Medellin and later confirmed on Talking Points Memo and The Rachel Maddow Show that Senator Henry Reid (D-NV) has filed a motion for cloture on two pieces of legislation: “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” Repeal and the DREAM Act.
In a cloture motion, there needs to be 60 votes or more in order to end debate. If one OR BOTH passes the 60 vote thresh hold on Saturday, a vote for passage (where you only need 51) would take place on Sunday.
Right now DADT Repeal reportedly has the support of Senate Democrats and a small number of Republicans (Brown, Collins, and Snow) to overcome the 60-vote margin to invoke cloture. The DREAM Act is still up in the air if it will pass the 60-vote mark.
Stay tuned on Saturday and Sunday.
