Super
Bowl LIV in Miami, FL
Kickoff
between the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers is at 4:00 PM (MT) today on… FOX?!!!!!
Oh…
the network slogan is true… “Watch Fox and be damned for all eternity!”
I’m
going to keep this short and sweet.
I’m
picking Kansas City to the Super Bowl.
San
Francisco winning won’t surprise me giving their defensive line led by Defensive
Rookie of the Year Nick Bosa, the revived career of cornerback Richard Sherman,
tight end George Kittle, and their running back by committee. In the two
playoff games, Jimmy Garoppolo has thrown for 191 yards which is almost unheard
of in the pass heavy NFL today.
It
looks like coach Kyle Shanahan learned the lessons from Super Bowl LI and the
importance of a running game. His father, Mike, was coach of the Denver Broncos
who led them to back-to-back championships in the 1990s and was buoyed by Terrell
Davis running behind a powerful offensive line.
Miami
holds a special place for the Shanahans. The last 49ers Super Bowl win was 25
years ago when Mike Shanahan was their offensive coordinator and saw Steve
Young finally get the monkey off his back with a six-touchdown pass performance
in a 49-26 destruction of the Chargers. Four years later, Mike was the Broncos
head coach when they won their second Super Bowl in a 34-19 win over the
Falcons in Super Bowl XXXIII.
However,
things are looking like they are aligning for the first Chiefs championship
since 1969.
Kansas
City has been on an eight-game winning streak that included a Week 17 win over
the Chargers at home that coincided with the Patriots losing to Miami and
elevated the Chiefs to the 2-seed. Kansas City rallied from two double-digit
deficits in their playoff games, trailing 24-0 against the Texans to win 51-31
and trailing the Titans 10-0 to win the Lamar Hunt Trophy 35-24.
I
also like Patrick Mahomes with the way he plays with controlled chaos. I think
the 49ers will have a tough time containing Mahomes as well as the other
offensive skill players the Chiefs have. All of this will lead to a Chiefs
championship.
CHIEFS 35, 49ERS 31
MVP: Patrick Mahomes QB
NON-QB MVP: Travis Kelce TE
